Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania
Often described as the "eighth" Natural Wonder of the World
Inscribed Member of the World Heritage Natural Properties
Excellent place to visit during any month because most of the animals live in the crater year round.  For the most comfortable viewing and road conditions, avoid the rainy season.
Excellent place to view lion, elephant, zebra, wildebeest, cape buffalo, hippo, rhino, wart hog, flamingos, ostrich, kori bustard, secretary bird, crowned crane, and vervet monkeys.
Ngorongoro is the remains of a volcanic cone that collapsed and eroded and formed a crater.  The walls of the crater rise 2,000 feet above the floor.  The floor of the crater is an amazingly large 125 square miles inhabited by about 25,000 animals.
"The first glimpse of the crater takes your breath away.   A vast amphitheater suddenly appears amongst the rain forest, so grand that it touches on the sublime.  The precipitous walls can only just be made out in the distant blue haze.  It seems like some lost world, a world where strange species might live."  Quoted from a Tanzania Tourist Corporation pamphlet.
